How Much Do Things Cost in Sofia

Sofia is Bulgaria's most expensive city but it is still one of the cheapest European capitals. 

Taxis and eating out will be the things that will strike you as particularly cheap.

Eating out is surprisingly affordable in Sofia.

Coffee at a coffee shop: 1-2 lv. (€.5 - 1)

Coffee from a vending machine: .5 lv (€.25) 

Sandwich: 3-5 lv (€1.5-2.5) 

Banitsa: 1 lv (€.5) 

Bottle of mineral water: .6 lv (€.3)

Dinner for two with a bottle of wine: 60 -120 lv (€30 - 60)

Beer: 1.2 lv (€.6) 

 


ACCOMMODATION RATES IN SOFIA
 

Hostels: from € 7-8 for a dorm bed, but for a private room (for two) you will have to spend at least €15-20.

3 star hotels: around €50 per night

4 star hotels: between € 60 - 80 

5 star hotels: €100 -200

 


MUSEUM ENTRANCE FEES IN SOFIA


Museum entrance: 4 - 10 lv (€2 - 5)

Student discount is usually 50%. Most museums have one free day per month.

 

PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARES IN SOFIA
 

Public transport ticket: 1.6 lv (€.80) 

Daily pass: 4 lv (€2)

Three day pass: 10 lv (€5) + 2 lv (€1) for the plastic smart card 

 

TAXI FARES IN SOFIA

Order by phone: 0.70 lv

Initial fare: 0.70 lv

Each km (6am-10pm): 0.79 lv

Each km (10 pm – 6am): 0.90 lv

Each 1 minute of waiting time: 0.22 lv

A taxi ride within the city center will costs around 6 lv (€ 3) and fares within the city limits rarely exceed 15 lv (€ 7.5).

 

NIGHTLIFE


Club entrance fee: 5-10 lv (€2.5 - 5)

Drinks: 5-10 lv (€2.5 - 5)

Many clubs offer specials (a bottle of vodka or whiskey and soft drinks at a fixed price of about 50-70 lv) In some clubs the only way to get a table is to purchase the special.
